Interested in Participating in ENRD Thematic Group on Carbon Farming?

Feb 11, 2022 | Biodiversity News, Climate Change News

The European Network for Rural Development (ENRD) has put out a call for expressions of interest to participate in the new ENRD Thematic Group (TG) on Carbon Farming. Expressions of interest must be received by 28 February.

ENRD logoAs a key component of the Green Deal, in December 2021, the European Commission adopted a Communication on Sustainable Carbon Cycles in which it promotes the upscaling of carbon farming as a green business model and sets out a series of short to medium-term actions to address current challenges to achieve this. This thematic group provides an opportunity to bring Member State representatives and stakeholders together to discuss how to upscale carbon farming. In this context, the TG on Carbon Farming will focus on:

  • Exploring how greater action on carbon farming can be achieved via the CAP through the identification of the key enabling conditions that must be in place;
  • Identifying ways in which the range of CAP interventions can be used to support carbon farming and what other support is required to encourage uptake of carbon farming practices;
  • Sharing experiences and initiatives currently taking place in Member States on carbon farming and discuss how these can be upscaled and transferred to other farming situations within the EU.

The TG will consist of a small but dedicated cross-section of informed and engaged stakeholders from different parts of Europe who will commit to participate in the two meetings and related activities in between the meetings. The meetings will be held in English without interpretation.

The following criteria are required for participants in the TG:

  • Commitment to participate in two meetings of the TG (indicatively 24/03/2022 and during June 2022). It is currently envisaged that the first meeting will be held in virtual form.
  • Practical experience, policy experience or knowledge of some aspects of ‘carbon farming’ as related to the agricultural and forestry sectors.
  • Capacity and willingness to contribute to discussions on the development and upscaling of carbon farming.

In addition, a commitment to engage in discussions and communicate TG outcomes to peers and other stakeholders is desirable.

Please express and explain your interest in becoming a member of the Thematic Group and in participating in the meetings through the link below by 28 February 2022 at the latest.

Further information and the registration form is available here. If you have any question, please contact carbon@enrd.eu
