NRN visited the family run farm of Michael Feehily in Ballydangan, Co. Roscommon, a suckler Limousin cross herd. Michael brought us on a walk of his farm showing the mineral soil running into peat soils/cut away bog and he talks to us about his participation in the GLAS scheme and his involvement in a EIP Agri project Farmpeat a results based environmental pilot programme. Michael has been passionate about the beautiful landscapes, the biodiversity and restoring what he can of the habitat and vegetation to its more natural state.
Michael promotes knowledge transfer to the younger generation to teach them about the vital importance maintaining and enhancing nature plays in our lives and continuing education on biodiversity, wildlife and how we farm the landscapes. He also explains that farming the land is not just inside the farm gate it expands into the greater community.
