Love Your Wellies Competition 2023

Aug 30, 2023 | EIP-AGRI News

Every corner of every field, village and town in rural Ireland has a story that needs telling. In the Love Your Wellies Competition, students participated in FarmPEAT workshops showing the importance of bogs and inspiring them to tell these stories through art.

On the 6th of July, Lullymore Heritage & Discovery Park generously hosted this year’s Awards Ceremony as part of their 30th Anniversary Celebrations.

  • In 1st Place, we had Olivia Paczkowska from St. Colman’s National School, Mucklagh, Co. Offaly with the embroidered t-shirt ‘Tiola’.
  • In 2nd Place, we had Ashley Coyle from Tullamore College, Tullamore, Co. Offaly with the game ‘Bog Snap’.
  • In 3rd Place, we had Conor Monaghan, Noah McDermott, Ross Phillips and Conor McNeill also from St. Colman’s National School, Mucklagh, Co. Offaly with their comic ‘Bog Busters’.

Well done to the winners and all of our finalists for their hard work and creativity! Click here to view the finalists’ entries: https://www.farmpeat.ie/resources-1.

Educational Resources:

Check out FarmPEAT’s educational resources here: https://www.farmpeat.ie/educational-resources. We recommend starting with the presentation and video on “How Raised Bogs Form” to set the scene about peatlands. Afterwards, use the “Raised Bogs of Ireland” presentation to dive deeper into the current state of Ireland’s bogs and follow it up with the “Mini Scientists Exercise”. In groups, your students will brainstorm solutions to the climate crisis in the agricultural and peat sector! You can also email info@farmpeat.ie to arrange a class field trip to explore the “Colours of the Bog” and “Scavenger Hunt” activities.
