The ACRES West Connacht CP team which is part of the new national agri-environmental climate measure (AECM) available to farmers across Ireland in 2023 was recently hosted by the Pearl Mussel Project (PMP). The PMP is a locally led European Innovation Partnership (EIP) in which local farmers, academics, and consultants have developed a programme to ensure the long-term cohabitation of agriculture and freshwater pearl mussels in eight important catchment regions in the west of Ireland.
The ACRES team met John O’Sullivan, a farmer who participated in the initiative and delivered an inspiring speech about how beneficial he found the project. In addition, he showed the team the drain-blocking work he had completed as part of his annual work plan; thereby giving the team the opportunity to test their habitat scorecards.
