The SUAS (Sustainable Uplands Agri-environment Scheme) EIP-AGRI Project held a conference at the Glenview Hotel, Co. Wicklow on the 17th of November 2022. This ambitious project was established to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to the environmental and economic challenges facing farmers in the Wicklow and Dublin uplands.
As the project comes to a close at the end of December 2022, this conference provided an overview of its extensive activities as well as providing detailed discussion on its outcomes and learnings. The keynote address at this conference was delivered by Minister of State in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Pippa Hackett.
Other speakers on the day included Declan Byrne, SUAS Project Manager as well as Professor Julia Aglionby, Executive Director of the Foundation for Common Land and Chair of the Uplands Alliance at the University of Cumbria and Professor Davy McCraken, Professor of Agricultural Ecology and Head of both SRUC’s (Scotland’s Rural College) Hill and Mountain Research Centre and Integrated Land Management Department.
