The European Commission Representation in Ireland today published and launched the Diversity Journal, a booklet showcasing a diverse range of inspiring stories of how individuals, communities, organisations, and local and national authorities have worked with the EU to make Ireland a more open, equal and diverse society. On page 13 of the booklet is a feature on the Sligo Centre for Independent Living’s (SCIL) Community Hub LEADER supported project.
The National Rural Network (NRN) worked alongside the European Commission Representation in Ireland and the SCIL to share the story of this fantastic project in this inspiring new publication. The SCIL was set up in 1996 to promote maximum independence for people with disabilities and to support their inclusion and empowerment within their communities. With the support of LEADER funding, the Centre recently established a Community Hub in Sligo Town called Number 45, which provides a space for all members of the community to meet and engage.
This project was supported as part of the LEADER Programme 2014-2020 (extended to 2022) under the theme of social inclusion and the subtheme of basic services targeted at hard to reach communities.
The Diversity Journal is available to view here.
